Overview
The Australian Garden Council was conceived from a growing concern about:
- The reduction in educational standards in horticulture
- Low apprenticeship entry levels into formal horticultural education
- The collapse in basic gardening internship training in the last three decades
- The drop in the participation rate in gardening population
- The closure of Open Gardens Australia and the impact of the closure of community garden clubs on the broader community
- The serious detriment to public amenity and health resulting from all of the above; and
- The lack of awareness by local, state and federal governments to the global garden tourism industry
