Education

The Australian Garden Council will connect with primary and secondary school students to provide a national mentoring process supporting students' interests or hobbies in gardening, ornamental horticulture, including native and exotic flora, through the awareness of potential career opportunities in these fields.

 

The AGC will support the Young Hort Australia movement wherever possible to achieve these similar aims and objectives by providing leadership and advice.

 

The AGC will provide assistance and guidance to establish any such courses as deemed necessary to improve formal educational and training programs crucial to achieve an increase in apprenticeship and traineeship numbers in gardening and ornamental horticulture and environmental studies.

 

The Australian Garden Council is committed to working with tertiary educational institutions and horticultural industry groups to improve the standards of training in these fields.

 

The Australian Garden Council will help education the community on matters relating to the environment, gardening and ornamental horticulture by establishing new or supporting existing programs.

Community

The Australian Garden Council will use practical initiatives to support and encourage local community groups, garden clubs, related associations and societies. The AGC will assist with strategies to help increase their memberships and preserve and promote their organisations inherit gardening expertise.

 

For the betterment of gardening in the broader community, the Australian Garden Council will help these groups coordinate their activities and to advise them on how to protect and preserve the natural environment and increase participation in gardening activities in their areas.

 

The Australian Garden Council will provide advice and support to school and community groups wishing to establish new garden clubs in their districts.

 

The Australian Garden Council will employ social media and traditional communication programs to help educate and promote home gardening and plant biodiversity in the context of the natural and built environment in rural and urban communities.

Tourism

The AGC will liaise with government, NGOs and the tourism and horticultural industries   to increase inbound garden tourism.

 

We will link with organisations such as International Tourism Network, the Royal Horticultural Society UK and Japan, the Canadian Garden Council, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, to initiate, promote and coordinate interest in Australian garden tourism attractions.

 

The AGC will provide a forum to promote and increase government, community and industry awareness, and opportunities to increase engagement between the international and Australian garden tourism communities.

 

The AGC will support the application to the Bureau of International Expositions and the International Association of Horticultural Producers to approve and establish an Australian International Garden Festival.
