So what exactly is horticulture?
“Horticulture” is derived from the 17th century Latin words hortus (“garden”) and culture (“care”). In essence, Horticulture is the science and art of everything that is required to create a garden, including it's development, propagation, marketing, cultivation, and of course the stars of the show, the plants.
Why would I look at gardening and horticulture as a career?
This future focused, sustainable industry offers a wide variety of secure careers. Whether you like being outdoors, indoors, or crave a balance between the two, there is a huge range of jobs on offer. It's a growing, buoyant sector that is after passionate people (and where you get to work with a great bunch of welcoming, knowledgeable folks, too!).
Do I have to go to university? I'm not sure it's for me.
No you don't, but getting started with a horticultural certificate will give you excellent, rounded grounding to get you going. Check out the 'courses and training' link below to find study locations near you.

Great! The most successful horticultural businesses need marketers, accountants, plant biologists and pathologists, disease specialists, sales-people, tour guides, landscape architects.... you get the idea!
